Every Film Starts With an Idea…

Every film starts with an idea. MISSION was created after years of, the Director, Melissa Pratt questioning the true impact of the service trips she attended.

In my final semester at DePaul University, I was taking a class called Documentary Production 3. The main point of the class was to begin formulating a treatment for a feature length documentary or series. Within the first week of class, I had to come up with three ideas. While thinking about what kinds of stories I want to tell, I knew I wanted to make a documentary about something important in the world and important to me. The questions from my previous service trips came back to me. I knew I wanted to tackle the this topic, the other ideas I came up with did not compare to the impact this film could make. I then spent the rest of the class finding the way I was going to tell this story.

This film shows my initial thought process for creating this film.
